DIY Sunflower Wreath

I'm still on my wreath kick!  (check out some others here, here, and here)  And I love sunflowers :)  They're so pretty when they come out at the end of summer.  So, I decided to make a sunny sunflower wreath for our front door.

To make your own, you will need:
  • Raffia covered wire, brown (I found mine in Michael's floral arrangement area)
  • 3-4 sheets bright yellow felt
  • 3-4 sheets deep yellow felt
  • 1 sheet deep green felt
  • Wire cutters
  • Scissors
Start by winding your wire into a flat spiral until it is 10-12 inches in diameter.  Then snip the excess wire off.

Next, cut a few 3 inch pieces of wire.  Fold these around portions of the spiral so that when it's hanging on your door, the whole thing doesn't sag.  Hard to explain, hopefully the pictures help :)

Now, cut a whole bunch of teardrop shaped pieces of yellow felt for the petals.  You'll want them to be about four inches or so from base to tip.  Don't worry about making them perfect!

Next, snip two small slits in the base of the petal and thread it onto the wire.
This is the back of the petal- make sure you thread all your petals on the same way
Repeat the process again and again, mixing up which shade of yellow you use.  When you have about 3/4 of the circle completed, cut out two spade shaped pieces of dark green felt for the leaves.  Thread them on the same way as the petals.

Continue until the circle is complete.  For more depth, you can fill in two circles of the spiral with petals.  Wrap the wire around itself to finish the wreath.

Then, simply hang and enjoy!  I love how this turned out!!
