Teacher Gift

Christmas is but a few precious days away, and I'm so excited!  Strangely, there is no snow... and this is a place where we have had snow at both Halloween and Easter!  I'm still holding out hope for a white Christmas, but even if there isn't snow, there will be family and friends and lots of love this Christmas.

If you're looking for a way to show your favorite teacher (or even a student) some love this holiday season, I've got a gift to share with you :)  I gave this to each of the teachers in my English department.  As a new teacher, I LOVE fun pens, and so I thought it would be great to get some for my colleagues.  I threw in some highlighters and chocolate as well, along with a tag that reads "May your holidays be merry and bright!" using metallic sharpies and highlighters.

I hope you enjoy, and I hope you come back on Christmas for a very special post- my first ever video!

Teacher Feature: Lego People

It's the beginning of the school year, so even though I did a teacher feature recently showing you all my classroom, I couldn't resist doing another that showed you a piece of what we are doing in class. :)

As a way to get to know my students, I had them color in these Lego people printables.  Then, students labeled the parts of the body with what was on their mind (the head), what they loved (the heart), what their burdens are (the shoulders), what they do (the hands), where they have been and where they are going (the feet).  The plan is to revisit these Lego people throughout the year as student examine characters and their motivations.  (If you want to read more teaching ideas throughout the year, hop over to my other blog, Kvinglish)

What would you write on your Lego person?

Teacher Feature: My Classroom

The first week of school is upon us!  I'm so excited to be in the classroom :)  I wanted to share with you a few of the things that make this space really my own.

I have a cute little coat closet that I added a strip of washi tape to for some fun polka dots.
I teach English, but I love incorporating art.  This hangs above our art supplies (recognize the push pins?)
This box was a gift from my sister-in-law.  It has hanging file folders that I'll keep past assignments in!
Some cute desktop items- I love the blue dish because one of my students made it!  I'm using it to hold paper clips.
I'm maybe most excited about my growing class library... lots of great books to choose from!

Are you heading back to school this year?  What memories do you have about your favorite classes?

Teacher Feature: A New Blog!

Hi everyone!  Happy Wednesday :)

As some of you know, I'm currently in school (again...), this time to become an English teacher.  I've decided to start a teaching blog to help organize some of my ideas for activities.  So, occasionally I'll have a teacher feature here on GoesLightly.com to show you something from the new blog, Kvinglish.  It definitely won't take the place of my regular blogging, though!

The first post with some content over there is all about a class I co-designed that explored the ways art and poetry can overlap, intersect, and converse with each other.  Check it out! :)
